Amid the uncertainty surrounding quarterback Kirk Cousins’ future, the Atlanta Falcons have made a move to secure a key piece of their roster for the 2025 NFL season, aiming to improve on last year’s performance. A former Green Bay Packers player will remain on head coach Raheem Morris’ squad.

Cousins signed a significant contract last year with the Falcons, but with Michael Penix Jr. now named the starting quarterback, the 37-year-old veteran won’t see playing time at the start of the season. His future is tied to his no-trade clause, as well as the potential interest from other teams around the league.

It’s still unclear what Cousins will do next. His available options appear limited after the Cleveland Browns, one of the teams reportedly interested in him, decided to sign veteran Joe Flacco as one of their options in the quarterback room.

However, despite the uncertainty surrounding Cousins, the Falcons aren’t wasting any time this offseason. The Atlanta franchise has decided to re-sign cornerback Kevin King, who had a standout performance in 2024 after spending most of his career with the Packers.

In the 2024 NFL season, King appeared in 15 games for the Falcons, including one as a starter. He recorded 10 tackles, two passes defended, and one fumble recovery. His continued presence on the roster adds depth and brings stability to a career that has been impacted by injuries.

The Packers selected King in the second round of the 2017 NFL Draft, and he spent five seasons in Green Bay, appearing in 51 games. Despite a promising start to his career, injuries took a toll on his development. After an Achilles tear sidelined him for the entire 2023 season, he joined the Falcons in 2024 at the request of then-coach Jerry Gray.
