Kirk Cousins is looking for playing time in the 2025 NFL season, and it seems the Atlanta Falcons might not be the ideal place for that. A recent move by the Cleveland Browns, who signed a Super Bowl champion QB, has cast doubt on the veteran quarterback’s future.

Super Bowl XLVII champion Joe Flacco has joined the Browns, where he will earn $4 million. The 40-year-old veteran will be part of a quarterback room that this offseason signed former Pittsburgh Steelers first-round pick Kenny Pickett and also has injured Deshaun Watson recovering from a second Achilles tendon rupture surgery.

Given the context, Cousins is no longer an option for the Browns. His no-trade clause prevents him from seeking a way out of the Falcons before the draft, which means his future is currently uncertain, with fewer and fewer scenarios remaining.

Where will Cousins play?

With the Browns out, another team that could be interested in Cousins is the Steelers, who are still waiting for a response from Aaron Rodgers. According to NFL insider Mike Florio, a future in Pittsburgh might be the only viable option left for Cousins if he wants to leave Atlanta, as long as the black and gold show genuine interest in signing him.

“If the Steelers are out, there might be no one — if Cousins’s goal is to start and play. At that point, Cousins would be better off waiting to see if there’s an injury that prompts a team to try to swing a trade. Of if there’s an injury to the player he’ll be backing up in Atlanta, Michael Penix Jr,” Florio reported on NBC Sports.

Cousins’ future is uncertain

As of today, Cousins will likely remain with the Falcons as the backup to Michael Penix Jr, who has every chance to be the starter next season. The 37-year-old veteran quarterback signed a big contract extension with Atlanta and will now look for other opportunities to increase his playing time.
