Because of that, the backup plan is underway, and itâs very likely they will select a quarterback in the upcoming draft. According to a report by Jordan Schultz, a surprise name has been added to the list of candidates.

For several weeks now, many rumors have pointed to the Steelers wanting to find their franchise quarterback of the future, as theyâve been far from contending for a Super Bowl since Ben Roethlisbergerâs retirement.
Who will be Steelers starting QB?
Mason Rudolph will be the starting quarterback for the Steelers if Aaron Rodgers maintains his uncertain stance and decides not to sign with the team. Skylar Thompson is also on the roster, and the other spot would be filled by a rookie.
Shedeur Sanders, Jaxson Dart, Jalen Milroe, Will Howard, and Tyler Shough had been mentioned as options for Pittsburgh, but McCord could be that dark horse available in the third round. Thatâs someone who wouldnât disrupt the plan to target a defensive lineman in the first round.
