NFL News: Aaron Rodgers has reportedly chosen retirement decision as starting quarterback contemplates Steelers and Vikings

Aaron Rodgers may be walking away from football, unless the right opportunity comes calling. With the Steelers and Vikings as the only potential fits left, the veteran quarterback is reportedly leaning toward retirement rather than suiting up for a team that doesn't meet his championship standards.

Aaron Rodgers could leave the Pittsburgh Steelers hanging, according to a recent report from Aditi Kinkhabwala. The information points out that the quarterback only wants to sign with a championship contender, and that could make him hesitant about Mike Tomlin’s team.

“It’s extremely clear Rodgers is not going to play just for the sake of playing. Aaron Rodgers is more likely to retire than sign with a team that’s not a Super Bowl contender.”

At the moment, the Steelers are not seen as Super Bowl contenders, and that strengthens the theory that Rodgers actually wants to wait and see if the Minnesota Vikings open the door for him, in case J.J. McCarthy doesn’t look good during training camp.

Is Aaron Rodgers retiring?

Aaron Rodgers could retire if the available teams don’t meet his expectations to seriously compete for a Super Bowl. As of now, with less than a week to go before the draft, the only real options on the table are the Steelers and the Saints.

Pittsburgh hasn’t won a championship in 16 years and has several holes, especially on the offensive and defensive lines. On the other hand, New Orleans has just emerged as an option due to Derek Carr’s injury, but they don’t look like contenders in the NFC either.
