The Pittsburgh Steelers could be interested in a trade with the Miami Dolphins for one of Tua Tagovailoa’s star teammates. According to a report by Adam Schefter, that move could give Aaron Rodgers a key weapon.
“The Dolphins have had trade discussions with the Pittsburgh Steelers about their lone Pro-Bowl selection last season, tight end Jonnu Smith, per league sources. Those talks came after Smith expressed an interest in reworking his deal that is scheduled to pay him $4.8 million this season.”
Although the Steelers already have a reliable tight end in Pat Freiermuth, adding Jonnu Smith could give a major boost to an offense that needs to take the next step for Pittsburgh to become a true Super Bowl contender.
Steelers could make a trade for star tight end
Arthur Smith, the Steelers’ offensive coordinator, worked with Jonnu Smith during the 2023 season with the Atlanta Falcons. Because of that connection, Schefter says the player could be a valuable asset for Pittsburgh.
“Despite Miami’s search for a trade partner, Smith reportedly prefers to stay with the Dolphins under a new deal. Last season, he set franchise records for a tight end in receptions, yards, and touchdowns, making him a valuable target, potentially even for Aaron Rodgers in Pittsburgh.”
