NFL News: Mike Tomlin and Steelers had reportedly made their final decision between Aaron Rodgers and Shedeur Sanders before 2025 Draft

Despite weeks of speculation and media buzz surrounding Shedeur Sanders, Mike Tomlin and the Steelers had already made up their minds well before the 2025 NFL Draft. With their sights set on a veteran presence under center, Pittsburgh quietly committed to Aaron Rodgers as the quarterback they believe can lead them to a Super Bowl.

Mike Tomlin and the Pittsburgh Steelers never considered selecting Shedeur Sanders in the 2025 Draft, according to a new report by Gerry Dulac. Despite all the frenzy in national media about the 21st pick in the first round, there was practically no chance of that happening.

“Despite what all the national people thought, they did not intend to draft him. If he was there on the sixth round, maybe. But, you know, the people that had him going to the Steelers and had him going at 21, that just wasn’t going to happen. No quarterback was going at 21. That includes Jaxson Dart, who they did have a first-round grade on.”

The Steelers addressed the quarterback position in the sixth round with Will Howard from Ohio State, but their priority is to wait for Aaron Rodgers to sign with the team, as he is the missing piece in their short-term plan to win the Super Bowl.

Who will be Steelers starting quarterback?

Aaron Rodgers is the chosen one to be the starting quarterback for the Steelers, and according to Dulac’s information, Shedeur Sanders was never on their radar. That was confirmed by the numerous occasions in which they passed on the opportunity to select him as he continued to fall in the draft.

“You could see how many times they passed on him (Shedeur Sanders). If they were going to take him, they would have tried to take him in the fourth round, but, it wasn’t high on their list.”
