NFL News: Mike Tomlin and Steelers have chosen their starting quarterback if Aaron Rodgers joins Vikings or retires

With the future of Aaron Rodgers uncertain, Mike Tomlin and the Pittsburgh Steelers have made a decisive move, naming their starting quarterback in case the legendary signal-caller joins the Vikings or steps away from the game.

Mike Tomlin has decided that Mason Rudolph will be the starting quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers in case Aaron Rodgers chooses the Vikings or opts for retirement. This information was made known in a report by Adam Schefter.

“Right now, they are prepared to go into the season with Mason Rudolph as their quarterback. He’s won there before. Now, again, would you rather have Aaron Rodgers? Yes. But that’s not where they are today. So, Mason Rudolph would be their starting quarterback as they head into the draft and as they wait still to get an answer about whether Aaron Rodgers would be willing to play the 2025 season in Pittsburgh.”

Rudolph was with the Steelers from 2018 to 2023. When he was drafted in the third round, his potential was seen as that of a possible successor to Ben Roethlisberger. However, he never received a real opportunity and went to the Titans in 2024. Now, unexpectedly, he could have the responsibility of making Pittsburgh a Super Bowl contender.

Who will be Steelers starting quarterback in 2025?

Mason Rudolph would be the starting quarterback for the Steelers in case Aaron Rodgers rejects the offer Pittsburgh has made him. Currently, the other name on the roster is Skylar Thompson.

The big problem for Pittsburgh is that if Rodgers waits for the Vikings or retires, there won’t be many good options left in free agency. The only possible names would be veterans like Joe Flacco or Carson Wentz.
