Mike Tomlin and the Pittsburgh Steelers are ready in case Aaron Rodgers rejects their offer. For several weeks, it has been speculated that general manager Omar Khan is thinking long-term. Now, a report by Colin Cowherd reveals that the team could make a big surprise in the upcoming draft.
“The 21st pick if Milroe is not taken. Pittsburgh is leaning now on taking him. I’m told the Steelers really like Jalen Milroe. 21st pick, first round. So, if Aaron signs with Pittsburgh, it’s gonna become Kirk Cousins. They’re taking a quarterback because I’ve been told the Steelers are looking around at all these AFC quarterbacks and Milroe is the most athletically gifted guy to come out of this draft at that position since Lamar Jackson.”
The plan is for Rodgers to be a bridge quarterback, attempting to contend for the Super Bowl next season, but at the same time, the Steelers will already have their star of the future inside the building through the draft.
Who will be the quarterback for the Steelers?
Aaron Rodgers is the favorite to be the Steelers’ quarterback and already has an offer from the team. However, if he doesn’t accept it, Pittsburgh is prepared for Mason Rudolph to take the reins and also to recruit a young prospect in the draft. Although Jaxson Dart has been frequently mentioned, Cowher insists that the focus is on Milroe after his college career at Alabama.
“They feel as an organization that they need special. They just don’t stack up. They need special at quarterback. I’ve said he’s a better version of Anthony Richardson. Great kid, throws a deep ball and now with DK Metcalf they have a deep threat alongside Pickens. This is potentially a Kirk Cousins’ situation. I am told the Steelers really like Milroe.”

The situation Cowherd refers to is the one that happened last season with the Falcons. Kirk Cousins was signed with the promise that he was the quarterback of the future, and surprisingly, Atlanta selected Michael Penix Jr. in the first round of the draft. Toward the end of the year, Cousins was benched and might be traded soon.
