Mike Tomlin and the Pittsburgh Steelers might already know in advance what Aaron Rodgers will decide about his future in the NFL. According to a report from Adam Schefter, that would explain why there was no urgency to select a quarterback with their first three picks of the 2025 Draft.
āThat should tell you that the Steelers still have a feeling of confidence that Aaron Rodgers is going to wind up in Pittsburgh. That could have contributed to their decision to bypass a quarterback in this draft with the three picks that theyāve had so far.ā
Even though names like Shedeur Sanders were available, Tomlin and Omar Khan preferred to strengthen their defensive line and running game in those early round. A hint that the Super Bowl champion with the Packers might be close.
Who will be next Steelers starting quarterback?
Aaron Rodgers would be the next Steelers starting quarterback according to statements from Mike Tomlin and Art Rooney. Both admitted during the 2025 Draft that there has been good communication with the veteran, and the team owner even spoke about receiving the same positive signals.
However, even if Rodgers doesnāt sign, the Steelers seem to be covered. Tomlin is not afraid to bet on Mason Rudolph, and the rest of the quarterback room includes Skylar Thompson and rookie Will Howard. Also, the possibility of pursuing Kirk Cousins is still floating around as a last resort in case Aaron turns them down.
