NFL News: Mike Tomlin and Steelers sign key player as Aaron Rodgers has yet to decide on playing for Pittsburgh

As Aaron Rodgers continues to weigh his options, the Steelers aren't waiting around. Head coach Mike Tomlin and Pittsburgh have made a crucial move by locking in a key piece of their roster, signaling their intent to compete at the highest level, regardless of who lines up under center.

Mike Tomlin and the Pittsburgh Steelers have achieved one of their major offseason goals after signing Derrick Harmon. The information was confirmed by Tom Pelissero, and now, while they wait for Aaron Rodgers, they already have all the players they drafted in 2025 under contract.

“The Steelers agreed to terms with No. 21 pick Derrick Harmon on his four-year, $17,973,604 fully guaranteed contract. Of 32 first-round picks, 20 have already signed with training camp still two months away.”

The last piece missing is Rodgers, so the Steelers can begin working with a roster they believe will be enough to be Super Bowl contenders. Otherwise, all signs point to Mason Rudolph being the starting quarterback.

Who did Steelers just sign?

The Steelers just signed Derrick Harmon, whom they selected with the 21st pick in the 2025 Draft. It was a very controversial decision, as names like Shedeur Sanders and Jaxson Dart were still available on the board at the time.

However, their priority was to strengthen the defensive line and find a long-term replacement for Cam Heyward. They addressed the quarterback position in the sixth round with Will Howard from Ohio State.
