Mike Tomlin and the Pittsburgh Steelers reached an agreement with Will Howard, and the rookie quarterback has officially signed a four-year contract. After being selected in the sixth round of the 2025 Draft, the Ohio State star expressed excitement about the opportunity.
“The Steelers are an organization I have a lot of respect for a lot of years. Coming into this process I was hoping the Steelers would take me because I thought it was a great organization. I am so blessed. I couldn’t be more fired up to be with an organization like the Pittsburgh Steelers.”
The Steelers are still waiting on Aaron Rodgers, but if the veteran doesn’t sign with the team, Howard could have an open competition with Mason Rudolph for the starting job in Pittsburgh.
Who will be the starting quarterback for Steelers in 2025?
If Aaron Rodgers turns down the Steelers, Mason Rudolph would be at the top of the depth chart at least heading into training camp and preseason. However, Will Howard could prove that he’s ready for an opportunity, although the coaching staff has warned that they want to bring him along slowly.
“It’s been my dream my whole life to be an NFL quarterback and here we are. So, I’m trying to enjoy it as much as I can. It’s not about when, it’s where. I had to trust in God and believe he had a plan for me and the right team was going to pick me. And I think 100 percent the right team picked me. I am a Pennsylvania kid.”
