NFL News: Mike Tomlin could reportedly be in a lot of trouble with Steelers because of Aaron Rodgers

Mike Tomlin's future in Pittsburgh could be tied to one major decision: Aaron Rodgers. According to reports, if the Steelers fail to land the star quarterback, Tomlin may face pressure.

Mike Tomlin could take most of the criticism if Aaron Rodgers doesn’t sign with the Pittsburgh Steelers. According to a report by Ray Fittipaldo, all signs point to team ownership placing much of the responsibility for landing the star quarterback on him.

ā€œI think Art Rooney and that front office are deferring to when it comes to Rodgers. Let’s face it, any free agent that’s going to sign here, playing for Mike Tomlin is going to be a big part of that equation. A lot of people around the league want to do that. I don’t know if that Steelers logo right now means as much to Aaron Rodgers as Mike Tomlin does. I think Mike is a big part of the equation, and I think if Aaron doesn’t sign he’ll probably get most of the criticism.ā€

Tomlin believes Rodgers is the missing piece to compete for the Super Bowl next season and that, starting in 2026, the team can begin a new project with a young quarterback acquired through the draft.

Will Steelers fire Mike Tomlin?

No. The Pittsburgh Steelers will not fire Mike Tomlin, as he is under contract through 2027. However, according to what Fittipaldo mentions, failing to sign Rodgers combined with a losing season could put the head coach under some pressure moving forward.

ā€œAbsolutely. It would be his first losing season. They believe that they can get to the playoffs and win in the playoffs with Aaron Rodgers. If it turns out another way, I think it’s gonna be bad news for the Steelers.ā€
