Mike Tomlin still wants Aaron Rodgers to be the Pittsburgh Steelers‘ starting quarterback in the 2025 NFL season, but the 41-year-old continues to push the long-awaited announcement about his future.
Even though Rodgers has reportedly given Tomlin and the Steelers a big reason to believe he’ll be on board, Pittsburgh is keeping its options at quarterback wide open. In fact, it will evaluate a prospect who has a special connection to the city.
Pittsburgh native and former Mount Lebanon quarterback Seth Morgan received an invitation to participate in the Steelers‘ rookie minicamp, the school’s athletics announced Monday on social media.

The event will take place from May 9 to May 11, allowing Tomlin’s coaching staff to evaluate prospects from the 2025 class. Players who participate in rookie minicamps get to know what life in the NFL looks like, taking part in activities such as practices and team meetings. Tomlin’s son, Dino, was also invited to a rookie minicamp―but not by the Steelers.

PennLive.com notes that Morgan isn’t the only local player to get an invitation, with Penn Hills wide receiver Hollis Mathis also set to participate in the Steelers’ rookie minicamp. These are the other players also expected to attend it:

Seth Morgan’s collegiate career
Morgan will be looking to impress Tomlin and the Steelers after going undrafted last week. The quarterback hopes to find in the NFL the stability he lacked in college, where he transferred three times.
He started his collegiate career at VMI and went on to play with the Keydets from 2019 to 2022, delivering great performances in his redshirt sophomore year. In 2021, Morgan amassed 2,175 passing yards for 14 touchdowns and 11 interceptions in 10 starts.
After a decline in 2022, he had a better year at Shepard in 2023, throwing for 2,970 yards and 24 touchdowns. That didn’t prevent Morgan from switching schools for a third time though, moving to New Hampshire in 2024.
The quarterback made quite an impression as a redshirt senior, helping his team make the playoffs after completing 63.54 percent of his passes for 2,382 yards for 22 touchdowns and 8 interceptions in 12 starts.

The Steelers will evaluate Morgan as they may need to consider adding depth to their quarterback room. With Rodgers still contemplating his next move, the only QBs on the roster are Mason Rudolph, Will Howard, and Skylar Thompson. Unless A-Rod decides to join Tomlin’s team, the QB1 job will be up for grabs in training camp.
