Quarterback Aaron Rodgers, currently a free agent, continues to evaluate his future in the NFL following his departure from the New York Jets. The Pittsburgh Steelers have shown sustained interest in signing him, but no deal has been finalized yet. Now the question is how long Mike Tomlin‘s team is willing to wait for A-Rod.

The story between Rodgers and the Steelers keeps adding chapters. The arrival of the former Green Bay Packers quarterback in Pittsburgh seems imminent, but it’s still not confirmed. Tomlin and A-Rod have already met before, even with team executives, but he left without signing a contract.

Rodgers has said that personal matters are delaying his arrival in Pittsburgh, but the truth is that Tomlin is going all-in on waiting for him as the only option to be the Steelers’ starting quarterback — a team that hasn’t won a playoff game in eight years.

What is the deadline for Rodgers to join the Steelers?

According to NFL insider Adam Schefter, the Steelers are in no rush to wait for Rodgers, and if they were to set a deadline, they’d be willing to wait until the start of the regular season on September 7 to get a definitive answer from him.

“It’s May 27th, and their first game is not until September 7th when they play the New York Jets. So I would say they’re willing to wait until September 7th,” Schefter said on ESPN’s Get Up. Still, the reporter added, “It’s likely we’ll hear something in the coming weeks about his arrival in Pittsburgh.

When would Rodgers join the Steelers?

The updates Schefter referred to involve the date Rodgers will finally accept the Steelers’ offer. The 41-year-old veteran is expected to miss the start of the team’s organized activities, something that Pittsburgh is treating as a concession to allow A-Rod to take care of personal matters before joining the black & gold roster.
