The 2025 NFL Draft didn’t go the way Shedeur Sanders expected. In the days leading up to the event, rumors suggested the quarterback might not be taken in the first round, but few anticipated he would fall all the way to the fifth.

With the 144th overall pick, the Browns saved Shedeur Sanders from sliding even further. However, the situation is challenging, as Cleveland currently has five quarterbacks competing for the starting job.

The Browns, who had already drafted Oregon QB Dillon Gabriel earlier, selected Sanders with the 144th overall pick. Now, Shedeur faces stiff competition as he joins a crowded quarterback room in Cleveland.

Nevertheless, Sanders has a contingency plan. Although he is officially a Browns player, another team has already expressed interest in potentially adding him to their roster if his NFL career doesn’t pan out.

Financially, the CFL offers significantly lower salaries than the NFL. However, playing in Canada could be a way for Sanders to continue his football career if opportunities in the NFL don’t materialize.

In 2014, the Cleveland Browns selected Johnny Manziel, who entered the league as a highly touted prospect. Just four years later, he was playing in the CFL after failing to meet expectations in the NFL.
