NFL News: Steelers might sign former Pro Bowl quarterback if Aaron Rodgers rejects Pittsburgh

If Aaron Rodgers turns down the Pittsburgh Steelers, the team may have a backup plan in mind. With limited options left in free agency, the Steelers could turn to a former Pro Bowl quarterback to lead their offense.

The Pittsburgh Steelers are waiting to see what Aaron Rodgers decides. However, if the veteran rejects them, Jameis Winston would be an alternative, according to a report from Mike Florio.

“I know they’re gonna end up with who you think I know. I’m looking at him right now. Jameis Winston. If they don’t sign Rodgers, they’re gonna go with Jameis Winston, because he can at least get the ball down the field to DK Metcalf.”

Although Winston showed flashes last season with the Cleveland Browns, he doesn’t seem like the solution that would lead the Steelers to contend for the Super Bowl. The problem is that there aren’t many options left on the market.

Who will be Steelers next quarterback?

Currently, the quarterbacks on the Steelers’ roster are Mason Rudolph and Skylar Thompson. According to several reports, Mike Tomlin and Omar Khan have put all their chips on Aaron Rodgers as QB1.

The interesting thing will be to see what happens if Rodgers signs with the Giants or the Vikings, leaving only Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston as possibilities. Wilson seems unlikely, as there have been no discussions between the veteran and Pittsburgh throughout free agency.
