The New England Patriots were favored by as many as 10 points entering their road Monday Night Football game vs. the New York Jets, the only winless team in the NFL, which wasn’t even going to have their starting quarterback under center.
Sam Darnold was out with an injury and the Jets are actively tanking, so most people thought this would be an easy win for a Patriots team that desperately craved a positive result after some terrible performances the last couple of weeks.
But even tough the Patriots ended up getting the win on the road, their struggles were once again on full display and the outcome of the game left evenmore negative assessments on Bill Belichick’s team.
Cam Newton Says He Only Cares About Wins, Not Other Stats
So, when asked about how poorly his team played on Mondayand how they almost lose a game vs. a team that doesn’t want to win, quarterbackCam Newton gave a blunt response on The Greg Hill Show:
“The most important statistic in all of sports is wins and losses. I don’t care how you get it,” Newton said when asked about his team’s terrible performance en route to that narrow win on Monday Night Football.
The Patriots trailed by as many as 17 points in the game. Joe Flacco made some questionable throws late in the fourth quarter that made everybody wonder whether they were actually trying to win or not.
At the end of the day, the Patriots pulled off the comeback to improve their record to 3-5 but as of today, it doesn’t seem like they’re even ready to make the playoffs in the first year of the post-Tom Brady era.
