The Denver Broncos are one of the most intriguing teams for the upcoming NFL 2025 season. Bo Nix delivered on his potential and now is set to take a leap on his second year as a pro quarterback. This has made the team one with much eyes over it and head coach Sean Payton has set the expectations clear.

Speaking to Yahoo Sports, Payton said, “The short-term goal is winning the division.” However, he didn’t stop there. “But this is a team capable of winning the Super Bowl. I’ve coached six teams that I thought could win the Super Bowl. Some went to championship games, some to the playoffs. This is my seventh team that I think has that.”

Those are big-time words as Payton, who is a Super Bowl winner himself, knows exactly what it takes to get the chance to lift the Lombardi. Payton took this job when it was a sinking ship and he immediately turned it around into a playoff team. Now, it’s onto the next step, which is the biggest achievement in the NFL.

Nix is the cornerstone of Payton’s project

While Payton is clearly an elite coach, he can’t actually play the game. Therefore, he needs a top-tier quarterback and roster to make it work. He had Drew Brees for most of his career, but when he arrived in Denver, the issue he faced was way bigger. First, he shipped Russell Wilson out of the building, and decided to roll the dice with former Oregon Duck, Bo Nix.

Nix guided the Broncos to a 10-7 season in his first year in the NFL. He completed 6.33% of his passes, threw for 3,775 yards, 29 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. By the way, he also ran for 430 yards with another four touchdowns on the ground. He was a pleasant surprise and was third on the Offensive Rookie of the Year award.
