The New Jersey Devils received disheartening news about star Jack Hughes, who underwent season-ending surgery on his right shoulder after a brutal collision with the endboards during the team’s 5-1 loss to the Colorado Avalanche. To withstand his key absence ahead of the NHL postseason, head coach Sheldon Keefe and the organization have shown interest in bringing a Stanley Cup champion to Newark

The Devils have been through the wringer lately. After losing consecutive games against the Vegas Golden Knights and Dallas Stars without Hughes, the Devils are looking to bounce back against the Winnipeg Jets at home on March 7.

However, the pivotal NHL game may not be the biggest focus to take place on that date for the franchise, as the trade deadline will keep everybody in Jersey on the edge of their seats, biting off their fingernails.

The Devils need a replacement for their first-line center if they want to be serious about their Stanley Cup aspirations. And perhaps there is none better option than a player that has already led his team to a championship.
