2021 MLS SuperDraft Format
The draft will have three rounds with 81 picks. The rule is that any expansion team receives the first overall pick of the draft and this year, Austin FC will have that privilege. After that, non-playoff clubs will receive the next picks in reverse order of prior season finish. The clubs that made it to the postseason in the prior campaign are then ordered accordingly to the round they were eliminated in the prior postseason.
Last but not least, the MLS Cup winners are given the last selection while the runners up of the past tournament receive the penultimate selection. Trades can take place before, during, and after the draft and this year wasnât the exception.
