After Paris SaintGermain’s emphatic 5-0 victory over Inter Milan in the 2024/25 UEFA Champions League final, Luis Enrique had no hesitation in naming who he believes should claim the next Ballon d’Or.

Post-match, the Spanish coach attended the customary press conference, which was more relaxed than usual thanks to the celebratory atmosphere. It was there he was asked who should be awarded the prestigious accolade, given by France Football to the best footballer of the season.

Without needing time to craft a diplomatic response, Luis Enrique confidently expressed his opinion. In response to the direct question, he declared, “I would give the Ballon d’Or to Ousmane Dembele”. He explained his choice, saying, “For his performance in defending during this final—this is leading a team with humility and leadership”.

Not stopping there, he paused briefly before continuing his praise. I believe he undoubtedly deserves it. Not just because of the titles and goals, but for how he has pressed the game. He’s done it all season, but especially so in this final,” concluded the 55-year-old coach.
