Done Deal! Sergiño Dest is finally set to play for FC Barcelona after passing his medical and paying an initial 21 million eurotransfer fee to Ajax. According to sources, his contract will be until the 2025 season and his release clause is set at 400 million euros.
The American defender had a rollercoaster year last season, he was inserted into the Ajax starting lineup and capped by the USMNT. Near the end of the season, it was rumored that Germangiants Bayern Munich wanted to sign the defender and it looked set to happen until Barcelona came in and tempted the 19- year old player to the Camp Nou.
Dest is a defender that can either play right-back or on the left side, at Ajax he played in both positions, and on the U.S. National team, he has played at left-back. Dest was heavily scouted and even tempted to play for the Netherlands by current Barcelona manager Ronald Koeman but eventually choose to represent the United States. Dest is the son of an American serviceman and Dutch mother and earned his first cap for the U.S. in 2019.
