Alcaraz added that Raducanu was initially hesitant before saying yes, he recounted with a laugh. “She’s going to be the boss,” he said of the 22-year-old. “I’ve known Emma for a really long time and I have a really good relationship with her. In a pre-Roland Garros interview with Sky Sports, Draper reflected on what it’s like being one of the few left-handed players on tour. “People get very paranoid about hitting with someone who is a lefty if they’re playing a righty,” he explained.



“I remember being 340 in the world and I got a wild card into the Miami Open. I wrote my name down for practice, and no one wanted to hit with me. They were all just crossing out my name and putting someone else’s,” said the World No. 5. “I do understand it. It’s probably not what you’re going to face.”



Still, this isn’t something that affects Jack anymore. “I don’t care who I hit with. If I’m getting that ball in front of me, I’m able to hit, get in the groove, it doesn’t really matter,” he said. “Maybe that’s just the mentality I’ve grown up with the fact that not many people want to hit with lefties before tournaments and stuff.”

“I have big respect for him. I know what he’s going to bring. He’s going to be really tough to beat,” Draper said of Alcaraz. Now, the British star has a clearer understanding of his ideal playing style. “What was important was that I learn how to be defensive and do all those things, but also attack when I need to attack. So I think I’ve got the balance a lot better now,” he said. “I’m a big guy, but I’m not just a guy who hits big serves and can hit a big winner, I can do everything on the court, and that’s I think what all the top players are able to do.”

While Jack Draper heads into Sunday’s final as the clear favorite to win the Madrid Open, he cannot afford to underestimate <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/casper-ruud">Casper Ruud</a>. The Norwegian earned his place in the title match by defeating the Argentine Francisco Cerundolo and now has a major opportunity in his career.



He dropped out of the ATP top ten this week, falling from 10th to 15th place. However, his performance in Spain will bring him back to at least his previous spot, and potentially as high as 7th or 8th if he claims the title.



Moreover, this final represents a chance for Ruud to capture his first major tournament. Though he has 12 career titles, including the 2024 Barcelona Open, all of them have come at the ATP 250 or ATP 500 level. That’s why Sunday’s Madrid Masters 1000 final carries enormous importance for him.



<h2>Physical issues for Ruud in the semifinal</h2>



After his win over Cerundolo, Casper Ruud spoke with the media and admitted he experienced physical discomfort prior to the semifinal. “I felt something in my rib during warm-up, right before going out, and I felt it on almost every single shot, especially the serve,” he said.



“I got a couple of pain-killers—not the ideal thing, but in a situation like this you have to do that every now and then, and I was able to just try to play one game at a time, really,” Ruud explained. “I’m going to get it checked out now and hopefully it’s nothing too bad.”

Before Nadal, the last left-handed player to achieve such a feat was Marcelo Rios. The Chilean reached a career-high of World No. 2 during the 1999 Australian Open, holding that position from January 18 to January 25, 1999.

<h2>Draper reflects on his growth</h2>



Speaking to Sky Sports, Draper reflected on his progression and growing confidence on clay. “I feel stronger every time I play. The last couple of years coming onto the clay I felt against these guys I’d always be the one on the back foot, I’d always be the one defending,” Draper explained.



“The next part of my game was just getting strong, getting more capable physically to do the things I know I can do and bully these guys. My forehand is doing a lot of damage and I want to keep it up,” he added. “I have been doing everything in all areas pretty well and am excited to keep on going. Hopefully, it keeps coming together”.



<h2>Draper joins exclusive British company</h2>



It’s been a historic week for Draper, who will face Lorenzo Musetti for a chance to reach the Madrid Open final. With his impending Top 5 ATP ranking, Draper becomes just the fourth British player in history to break into the Top 5, joining an elite group that includes Greg Rusedski, Tim Henman, and Andy Murray.



Rusedski entered the Top 5 in 1997, Henman followed in 1999, and Murray last accomplished the feat in 2008. Draper’s rise marks another significant moment in British tennis history and solidifies his status as one of the sport’s brightest young stars.

After his impressive run at Indian Wells, <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/jack-draper">Jack Draper</a> has the chance to join a select group of male players who have won both the 2025 BNP Paribas Open and the Miami Open in the same season. The feat is known as the “Sunshine Double,” and only seven men have done it before, including Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic.



The first to achieve it was Jim Courier in 1991. He was followed by Pete Sampras (1994), Chilean star Marcelo Ríos (1998), <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/tennis/the-best-tennis-players-who-never-won-a-grand-slam">considered one of the best players never to win a Grand Slam</a>, and Andre Agassi (2001).



<a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/roger-federer">Federer</a> and Djokovic not only accomplished the Sunshine Double but did so multiple times. The Swiss star completed it in his remarkable 2005 season, repeated it in 2006, and did it once more in 2017 —beating Stan Wawrinka 6-4, 7-5 in Indian Wells and defeating Rafael Nadal 6-3, 6-4 in Miami.



Meanwhile, <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/novak-djokovic">Djokovic</a> has completed the Sunshine Double a record four times. He first did so in 2011, one of the most dominant seasons in ATP history, and then three consecutive times from 2014 to 2016. In his most recent run, he defeated Federer 3-6, 6-3, 7-6(3) in the Indian Wells final before beating Nadal 6-3, 6-3 in Miami.

<h2>Jack Draper’s potential run in Miami</h2>



Draper, now World No. 7, could also become only the second Briton to win the men’s singles title in Miami, following two-time champion Andy Murray (2009, 2013), who will be present this year coaching Djokovic.

While the Sunshine Double remains a tall order, Draper has a favorable draw. Still, his opening match might already be tricky, as he is set to face Jakub Mensik, a powerful 19-year-old. 



However, the rest of the Top 10 will be determined to stand in his way. Among them, Djokovic will be especially motivated, aiming to end his first-round losing streak in Miami and set another record by becoming the first man to win seven titles there, breaking his tie with Agassi.

<a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/jack-draper">Jack Draper</a> defeated Holger Rune 6-2, 6-2 to clinch his first ATP Masters 1000 title at Indian Wells. The 23-year-old Briton had an impressive run, beating defending champion Carlos Alcaraz, as well as 2022 champion Taylor Fritz. Now, he will rise to the seventh place of the ATP Rankings for the first time.



“I feel like I deserve it, in all honestly,” Draper said of the milestone, to the ATP Tour Website. “The amount of adversity I’ve been through, the amount of sacrifices, the amount of time that all the people around me have put into me and the hard work. It’s an emotional feeling to know how much you’ve gone through and put in, and to be here now to say that I’m going be No. 7 in the world tomorrow, I can’t tell you how much that means to me.”



However, that won’t be the only change in the rankings. World No. 1 Jannik Sinner, who is currently serving a three-month ban due to a doping case, will remain at the top, just as Alexander Zverev and Alcaraz will retain their positions as World No. 2 and World No. 3, respectively. However, both the German and the Spaniard will lose a significant number of points.



Fritz will stay at the fourth place, while Novak Djokovic, who was eliminated in the second round, climbs two spots. Casper Ruud, Daniil Medvedev, Andrey Rublev and Stefanos Tsitsipas will all remain at the Top 10. Meanwhile, Alex de Minaur falls to the Top 11.

On the other hand, finalist Holger Rune climbs one spot, rising to the Top 12. At 21 years old, Rune was aiming for his fifth tour-level title and his second ATP Masters 1000 trophy, having previously defeated Djokovic in three sets to claim the 2022 Rolex Paris Masters championship.
