Jack Draper aims to join Federer, Djokovic in elite Indian Wells–Miami double club

After Jack Draper won his first Masters 1000 title at Indian Wells, the Briton now has the opportunity to join Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic, and five other men as the only players to win both in the desert and at the Miami Open in the same season.

After his impressive run at Indian Wells, Jack Draper has the chance to join a select group of male players who have won both the 2025 BNP Paribas Open and the Miami Open in the same season. The feat is known as the “Sunshine Double,” and only seven men have done it before, including Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic.

The first to achieve it was Jim Courier in 1991. He was followed by Pete Sampras (1994), Chilean star Marcelo Ríos (1998), considered one of the best players never to win a Grand Slam, and Andre Agassi (2001).

Federer and Djokovic not only accomplished the Sunshine Double but did so multiple times. The Swiss star completed it in his remarkable 2005 season, repeated it in 2006, and did it once more in 2017 —beating Stan Wawrinka 6-4, 7-5 in Indian Wells and defeating Rafael Nadal 6-3, 6-4 in Miami.

Meanwhile, Djokovic has completed the Sunshine Double a record four times. He first did so in 2011, one of the most dominant seasons in ATP history, and then three consecutive times from 2014 to 2016. In his most recent run, he defeated Federer 3-6, 6-3, 7-6(3) in the Indian Wells final before beating Nadal 6-3, 6-3 in Miami.

Draper, now World No. 7, could also become only the second Briton to win the men’s singles title in Miami, following two-time champion Andy Murray (2009, 2013), who will be present this year coaching Djokovic.

While the Sunshine Double remains a tall order, Draper has a favorable draw. He sits in the same quarter as an out-of-form Alexander Zverev, with the first seeded player he could face being No. 25 Alexei Popyrin. Still, his opening match might already be tricky, as he is set to face Jakub Mensik, a powerful 19-year-old.

However, the rest of the Top 10 will be determined to stand in his way. Among them, Djokovic will be especially motivated, aiming to end his first-round losing streak in Miami and set another record by becoming the first man to win seven titles there, breaking his tie with Agassi.
