<p>For <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/soccer/almost-six-years-later-benzema-to-be-called-up-by-france-ahead-of-euro-2020-20210518-0008.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Benzema</a> his involvement in the case stems that a childhood friend of his Karim Zenati also got involved in the alleged blackmail and Benzema is said to have acted as a middleman with Valbuena. <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/soccer/almost-six-years-later-benzema-to-be-called-up-by-france-ahead-of-euro-2020-20210518-0008.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Benzema</a> approached Valbuena during training with France to get rid of the tape because the people involved were “thugs”. <strong>This set off a string of events that could land Benzema in jail.</strong></p>

<p>When Karim Benzema approached Valbuena regarding the sex tape, the police by then had been recording the conversations with the parties involved and Benzema was recorded as saying <em>“He’s not taking us seriously.”,</em> to which Zenati responded: <em>“We’re here to sort it out; if he doesn’t want that he’ll have to deal with the piranhas.”</em></p>
<p><strong>If Benzema is found guilty, he could face five years in jail and a €75,000 fine.</strong> It will most likely mark the end of his career, and tarnish what has been a remarkable playing career. Benzema has always professed his innocence, and his lawyers have stated the Real Madrid forward does not have direct involvement in the case.</p>
<p><strong>Mathieu Valbuena never again played for the French national team </strong>following the incident and Benzema had only recently returned to the team. </p>
