The <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/chicago-bulls" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Chicago Bulls</a> have officially hit rock bottom. They suffered another blowout loss, this time to the Boston Celtics, to take their record to just 5-14. On top of that, both DeMar DeRozan and <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/zach-lavine" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Zach LaVine</a> left with injuries, which headlines a bigger concern.



Even though it’s still early in the season, the Bulls are less than likely to turn things around unless they either make some radical lineup changes or change their roster. The front office has Billy Donovan’s back, so a coaching change could be out of the question.



That means the team needs to come to terms with the fact that they just have to trade Zach LaVine, and they cannot have him miss any more games with injuries, as they just drive his trade value down. LaVine has a long history of injuries, and he’s already missed games with knee and foot ailments this season.



And with the Los Ange<a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/los-angeles-lakers" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">les Lakers</a> reportedly keeping tabs on his situation, perhaps the Bulls need to start being more careful with their star guard’s minutes and workload.



<h2>Lakers Will Be Patient</h2>



The Lakers got off to a slow start to the season, and while their interest in LaVine has been reported multiple times in the past, they cannot make any big moves right now after making so many signings in the offseason, as they need to wait until those players are eligible to be traded. 



With that in mind, Shams Charania of The Athletic reports that they’re going to be quite patient and do their due diligence on any player they potentially trade for this season:



“I think the Lakers will be patient. We saw what happened last year during the season. There was call for changes, Rob Pelinka and that front office they took a more diligent approach,” said Charania. “They pursued Kyrie Irving at the trade deadline, but then they went the other route, got a bunch of good role players, assembled a team that was kinda similar to that 2020 championship team, with high level rotation players and they go to the Western Conference Finals.”



<h2>Bulls Want Austin Reaves</h2>



The Bulls are no stranger to the Lakers’ potential interest in LaVine, obviously. According to Charania, they would ask for Austin Reaves in any trade package for their coveted star, assuming the Lakers are willing to pay LaVine’s steep salary.



“I expect them to express interest in Zach LaVine, but he’s making almost $40 million. So to total the salaries to reach that amount in a trade, guys like D’Angelo Russell, Rui Hachimura, they are not both trade eligible until mid-January,” added Charania. “The Bulls, I’m sure, would covet Austin Reaves in any potential Zach LaVine trade, as any team would. If you’re the Lakers and you’re out there trying to pursue a third star, whether that’s Zach LaVine, anyone else that becomes available, the player that teams will ask about is Austin Reaves 100%. To this point the Lakers have not been inclined to move Austin Reaves, they didn’t put him in a deal for Kyrie Irving.”



Reaves is a valuable part of the Lakers’ rotation, but he hasn’t played well this season, and he might never turn out to become a star, so the Lakers could actually cave in to these demands if they’re desperate to land LaVine.

LaVine would uplift the Lakers’ ceiling significantly, at least on offense. As for the Bulls, Reaves could be another solid foundational piece to build around, even if he’s not a franchise-caliber player.

The 2023-24 <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/nba">NBA</a> season is just getting started, but many teams seem to already know what this year holds for them. For instance, while the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/miami-heat">Miami Heat</a> can dare to dream with another deep playoff run, the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/chicago-bulls">Chicago Bulls</a> seem to be heading for another disappointing campaign.



The 2023 runners-up are fourth in the Eastern Conference with a 10-5 record, while the Bulls are 13th sitting at 5-11. Chicago is expected to rebuild sooner or later, which is why <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/zach-lavine">Zach LaVine</a> has been the subject of multiple trade rumors lately.



Since Miami is constantly looking to improve around Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo, it was mentioned as a possible trade suitor for LaVine. However, it looks like the team is not so interested in the Bulls star, especially if it has to involve Tyler Herro to get a deal done.



“But a person in close contact with the Heat front office said Miami has not been pursuing a trade for him, at least as of now. (I would be surprised if that changes.),” wrote Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald.

<h2>LaVine costs way more than Herro</h2>



Though LaVine has failed to prove he can be the leading star of a team with serious aspirations – he made just one playoff appeareance in Chicago (a first-round exit in 2022), he’s still a player that draws interest in the market.

This season, he’s averaging 21.3 points, 5.1 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game, shooting 43.1 from the field and 33.9 percent on threes. But his contract could be a stumbling block, especially for the Heat, since Herro is much cheaper.



LaVine is making just over $40m this season, but he’s due $43m and $45.9m in the next two years. Besides, he holds a player option for the 2026-27 season of nearly $49 million. Herro, on the other hand, is making $27m this season and won’t exceed $33m in any of the remaining seasons on his current four-year contract.



<h2>The Heat reportedly are one of LaVine’s preferred destinations</h2>



This may be painful for LaVine, who reportedly sees Miami as one of his favorite landing spots in the event of a trade. According to Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports, the Heat are one of teams preferred by LaVine and his camp along with the Los Angeles Lakers and Philadelphia 76ers.

The Bulls are struggling, and LaVine is in his prime and feels like he’s wasting his talents in the Windy City.

<h2>Lakers May Not Be That High On LaVine</h2>



“Philadelphia’s interest in LaVine has been overstated, as covered here, while I’ve been advised that the Lakers’ reported interest at this early juncture of the season is best described (at most) as TBD,” Stein wrote.



There’s another determining factor, which is that the Lakers cannot trade most of their potential trade chips until later in the season, and the Bulls might not want to wait for that long:



“The Lakers, for starters, couldn’t trade Austin Reaves or Rui Hachimura even if they wanted to before Jan. 15. A further slew of summer signees — D’Angelo Russell, Gabe Vincent, Taurean Prince, Cam Reddish, Jaxson Hayes and Christian Wood — can’t be traded before Dec. 15,” added Stein.



<h2>Lakers Want To Get Better From Within</h2>



The Los Angeles Lakers could use another floor-spacer next to LeBron and Anthony Davis. Then again, LaVine is entering the second year of a five-year pact, and the new CBA makes it tough to put together three players making big money.

LaVine is set to make north of $43 million this season. That’s a lot of money for a potential third-scoring option with a history of subpar defense and a temper. Perhaps that’s why the Lakers are reportedly looking to get better from within:



“I’m told the Lakers, at present, are focused on internal improvement, hopeful that getting Jarred Vanderbilt (who is ineligible to be traded this season after signing an extension with the Lakers in September) and Vincent back on the floor regularly will give them a meaningful boost,” Stein added.

Whether Rob Pelinka goes through another roster overhaul or not remains to be seen, and it’s still way too early in the season. However, we’ve heard and seen this story way too many times in the past not to at least keep an eye on what’s going on in Southern California.



Conversely, the<a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/chicago-bulls" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"> Chicago Bulls</a> have some major struggles of their own, and with <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/zach-lavine" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Zach LaVine’s</a> latest incident with a Bulls’ PR representative and all the trade rumors around him, a move somewhere else seems imminent.



LaVine took just nine shots in the Bulls’ latest loss and looked like someone who had given up on his team, and it’s not the first time he’s had some issues with Billy Donovan’s coaching. With that in mind, the Lakers represent a logical potential destination.

<h2>Lakers Are Keeping An Eye On Chicago</h2>



According to Jovan Buha of The Athletic, the Lakers do have a real interest in trading for LaVine, who’s a UCLA product and also represented by Rich Paul and Klutch Sports, just like LeBron and Anthony Davis:



“The Lakers’ interest in LaVine is real — at the right price,” wrote Buha. “However, LaVine’s potential availability also hints at the possibility of a fire sale in Chicago, with the organization seemingly looking to finally pivot away from its longstanding mediocrity. If additional Bulls players become available, the Lakers would also have interest in DeMar DeRozan and/or former Laker Alex Caruso, according to multiple team sources.”



Of course, they would have to wait until the Bulls bottom out and make their players available first, which could happen at any point between now and the trade deadline.



<h2>It Won’t Be Easy</h2>



The Lakers need to make sure to accommodate LaVine’s contract on their books. He’s slightly overpaid, and the new CBA makes it difficult to have three players making big bucks at the same time:

“The Lakers’ biggest concern in a potential LaVine trade is his gigantic contract: In addition to his $40.1 million salary for 2023-24, he’s owed $138 million over the next three years (which includes a $49 million player option in 2026-27 he seems likely to exercise),” Buha reported. “Moreover, LaVine has a 15 percent trade kicker that he’d almost certainly have to waive to make a trade to the Lakers feasible financially.”



On top of that, most of the Lakers’ potential trade chips won’t be eligible for a trade until Dec. 15, and it’s not like they could make up for an appealing trade package anyway:



“The Lakers would realistically have to wait until at least until Dec. 15, when most of their roster becomes trade-eligible (Russell, Gabe Vincent, Taurean Prince, Reddish, Christian Wood and Jaxson Hayes),” Buha continued. “Beyond that, Reaves and Rui Hachimura become trade eligible on Jan. 15. (Davis becomes trade eligible on Feb. 6, but don’t expect them to move him or James. Jarred Vanderbilt cannot be traded due to his multi-year contract extension.) The Lakers aren’t interested in including Reaves in a potential LaVine deal despite his recent move to the bench, according to multiple team sources.”

The Los Angeles Lakers should always be included on any list when it comes to All-Stars or borderline All-Stars available for trade, especially if LeBron James is also in town. In LaVine’s case, the ties are obvious, as he went to college at UCLA and is also represented by Klutch Sports.



The Lakers could benefit a lot from LaVine’s shooting and floor-spacing, not to mention he could be another playmaker every now and then. However, they might not have enough assets to convince the Bulls to take whatever they have to offer for him.



<h2>2. Philadelphia 76ers</h2>



The Philadelphia 76ers are a seamless fit. He fits their timeline and would obviously be a major offensive upgrade over Tobias Harris, even if he gives up some size. The defense could be an issue, but that Big 3 with Tyrese Maxey and Joel Embiid would be unstoppable.



Daryl Morey and the Sixers have more than enough assets to put together an offer the Bulls cannot turn down. On the downside, they might want to wait and spend those chips whenever — if — a bigger-profile player becomes available at some point.

The Miami Heat have failed to land Donovan Mitchell, Kevin Durant, Bradley Beal, Kyrie Irving, and Russell Westbrook. Erik Spoelstra and Pat Riley have reportedly low-balled other teams, and they’ve ended up empty-handed. That simply cannot happen anymore.



The Heat have knocked on the door of an NBA championship twice in the past four years, and LaVine’s shooting could be a perfect complement next to Jimmy Butler. The Heat could also hide him on defense, assuming they’re willing to give up what it takes to get a player of his caliber.



At the end of the day, the Bulls need to look at how to maximize LaVine’s value, and that might mean trading him soon before his discontent becomes all the more evident. If other teams know for a fact he wants to go, they have no incentive to make a big offer for his services.

In addressing the Knicks’ offseason trade potential with Heavy Sports’ Sean Deveney, an Eastern Conference GM mentioned the LaVine angle specifically. However, it was his opinion that some media manipulation may have been occurring on that particular front.
‘They’re connected to Zach LaVine… but that might be mostly coming from LaVine’s people,’ the GM told Deveney.
Nevertheless, the exec did see a pathway toward a deal between the two clubs, and the pieces that were mentioned as a potential trade return for the Bulls amounted to exactly the kind of package Karnisovas and Co. should be coveting in a rebuilding scenario.

But the franchise committed to me the same way I committed to them. As long as I have a Bulls jersey on, I support Chicago. I always have ever since I got traded here. It’s a franchise that wanted me and has helped my career out.”
“You understand the position you’re in—the first year of a contract that people put a label on for some reason. I’m the same player since I came here. That contract didn’t change me,” he added.
<h2>There’s No Beef With Billy Donovan</h2>
The UCLA product also talked about his relationship with coachDonovan. And while he admits they don’t always look eye-to-eye on some things, he also claims he’s been quite open to working things out:
“Our relationship is fine,” LaVine said.“We’ve had numerous talks. And that’s happened from Day One of our relationship from when he got here. He’s very personable. His door is always open. Do we agree on everything? No. And look, there are certain things I do that he doesn’t agree with. So I think that incident was one situation where we didn’t agree. We talked about it. We moved on. And we’re, what, 40-some games past that point? It’s not like I’m still hanging on to it.”
