This will be the first time Arch Manning begins a NCAAF season as the starting quarterback for the Texas Longhorns. Head coach Steve Sarkisian is well aware of the young QB’s talent — and he highlighted a key trait that sets Arch apart from his uncles, Eli and Peyton.
The Manning family has built a lasting legacy in the history of football. Now, it’s Arch’s turn to carry that torch as he takes the reins of the Longhorns heading into the upcoming college football season.
Throughout their time working together, Sarkisian has recognized the immense talent of his now-starting quarterback, highlighting — among many things — Arch Manning’s mobility. Speaking to the media, the head coach pointed out that this particular trait likely comes from Arch’s grandfather, not his uncles.
“I think there’s something that’s unique about Arch,” Sarkisian told ESPN’s Pete Thamel. “You can watch him throw and you see when you get up on him in person, man, he’s a bigger guy than maybe people think. When you watch him throw, the arm talent and the deep ball is there. Then you watch him move and you’re like, wait, this guy’s a better athlete than I thought. Definitely got grandpa’s gene. It’s not the uncles, he got grandpa’s gene.“
The trait Sarkisian pointed out is clearly reflected in the stats of the three Mannings: Peyton rushed for 667 yards in his NFL career, averaging 1.5 yards per carry, while Eli recorded 567 rushing yards with a 1.8-yard average. In contrast, their father Archie rushed for 2,197 yards over his career, averaging an impressive 5.7 yards per carry.
What can we expect from the Longhorns this season?
The upcoming season marks a new era for the Texas Longhorns, as star quarterback Quinn Ewers and tight end Gunnar Helm have both declared for the NFL Draft. With their departures, the team turns the page and prepares to build a new offensive identity under fresh leadership.
For the first time, Arch Manning will take the reins as the starting quarterback. The highly anticipated debut comes with big expectations, as Manning looks to carry on his family’s legacy while carving out his own path in the college football spotlight.
Luckily for the young QB, he won’t be alone. Two of his main offensive weapons will be standout wide receivers DeAndre Moore and Ryan Wingo — a dynamic duo expected to play a crucial role in the Longhorns’ passing game and overall success this season.
