Auston Matthews needs help with the Leafs after Mitch Marner’s departure. One of the biggest rumors in recent days is that, in order to bring in another star, the Canadian team may need to part ways with Morgan Rielly.

However, according to a report by Nick Kypreos, Rielly has made his decision clear and, for now, will not allow a trade even if Toronto Maple Leafs try to move him during free agency.

“I do believe there have been conversations whether directly or indirectly around Morgan Rielly and his camp, whether or not they’d be open to lifting the no trade clause. The feedback I’m getting is not at this particular time.”

Does Morgan Rielly have a no-movement clause?

Yes. Morgan Rielly has a full no-movement clause in his contract with the Toronto Maple Leafs. This clause gives him complete control over any potential trade or waiver placement, meaning the team cannot move him to another club without his consent.

The clause remains in effect through the 2027–28 season, after which it shifts to a modified no-trade clause for the final two years of the deal, allowing him to submit a list of 10 teams he would not accept a trade to.

At this time, there is no indication that Rielly is willing to waive his no-movement clause. Despite speculation swirling about potential trades involving him, the feedback around the situation suggests that he is committed to staying in Toronto.

Unless he changes his stance or the team’s direction drastically shifts, any trade involving Rielly remains highly unlikely under the current circumstances. However, Morgan’s name is definitely making headlines as the Leafs keep trying to replace Marner.
