The Toronto Maple Leafs are still trying to remain contenders for the Stanley Cup after losing Mitch Marner. Additionally, heading into the 2026-2027 season, Connor McDavid remains the main target for the Canadian team.

If the Leafs have any chance of convincing him, McDavid must see a championship-caliber roster in Toronto for the coming years. Otherwise, he will likely stay in Edmonton or consider other offers.

Auston Matthews needs help as soon as possible, and with salary cap space available, it seems the Maple Leafs are beginning to lay the groundwork to make a big move for McDavid.

Who did the Maple Leafs just sign?

The Toronto Maple Leafs just signed forward Dakota Joshua after a trade with the Canucks. In exchange, Vancouver received a fourth-round pick in the 2028 NHL Draft.

Joshua recorded seven goals and seven assists last season and played in 57 games with the Canucks. Now, Dakota returns home after being drafted by the Leafs in 2014.
