The Toronto Maple Leafs continue making moves in free agency as they try to build a roster that can support Auston Matthews next season. Despite reaching the playoffs for eight consecutive seasons, they keep falling short in the battle for the championship.
The last time the Maple Leafs won the Stanley Cup was in 1967, when they defeated the Montreal Canadiens. Since then, the wait has been incredibly long for thousands of fans, as it marks the longest active championship drought in the NHL.
In the 2024–2025 season, hopes were rising after securing the Atlantic Division and earning a first-round victory over the Ottawa Senators. Despite that, the dream came to an end against Brad Marchand and the Florida Panthers.
Who did the Maple Leafs just sign?
The Toronto Maple Leafs have confirmed the signing of Vinni Lettieri. The contract is for one year and worth $775,000. It’s a move to bring depth at the forward position.
Last season, Lettieri played for the Boston Bruins in his second stint with the team, scoring three goals in 26 games, but he also spent a significant part of the schedule in Providence with the franchise’s AHL affiliate, where he scored 21 goals. Vinni has played in the NHL for teams such as Anaheim, Minnesota, and the New York Rangers.
