Jake Paul is definitely not a big fan of Canelo Alvarez. The YouTuber-turned-boxer recently took a jab at the Mexican champion, but the shot quickly backfired.

In recent years, Jake Paul has made it clear he wants to build a serious professional boxing career and eventually be recognized as one of the sport’s top fighters. While he has yet to face elite competition, he continues positioning himself to get that opportunity.

Most recently, Paul came close to securing a fight with Canelo Alvarez. However, the Mexican star turned down the offer, further fueling Paul’s frustration toward him.

This time, Paul took aim at Canelo’s recent fight against William Scull. He mocked the bout for producing just 275 total punches between both fighters—the lowest ever recorded in a 12-round match.

Canelo Alvarez

Canelo Alvarez of Mexico arrives for a press conference to preview their September 30 super middleweight undisputed championship fight against Jermell Charlo at Palladium Times Square on August 15, 2023 in New York City.

However, Paul’s attempt to ridicule Canelo didn’t land as intended. While he pointed out that he threw more punches in his bout against Mike Tyson, fans were quick to call out the irony—given that the Tyson fight was widely seen as a mismatch. The 58-year-old legend was clearly not in proper condition, and many viewed the bout as little more than a glorified sparring session for Paul.
