John Schneider witnessed firsthand how the Toronto Blue Jays struggled in the final game of their four-game series against the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park. The team had hoped to secure a sweep of the home team, but a series of questionable calls by the home plate umpire complicated matters. After the game, the manager didn’t hesitate to voice his criticism.

Following the Blue Jays’ 4-3 loss in ten innings, Schneider respectfully expressed his frustrations with the umpire, whose controversial calls drew criticism on X and other social media platforms. The manager remarked that his team was not only playing against the Red Sox but also battling the umpire’s decisions.

“It’s tough to battle nine hitters and an umpire. I’ve got all the respect in the world for them, but it wasn’t a great day for him behind the plate,” Schneider said. The team now heads to Baltimore to face the Orioles before returning home.

Umpire Manny Gonzalez behind the plate

A video featuring umpire Manny Gonzalez’s calls behind the plate circulated online. While Schneider’s comments highlighted the umpire’s performance, it’s worth noting that the review wasn’t officially conducted by MLB but rather by a popular X account, Umpire Auditor, which has nearly 100,000 followers.

The video clearly shows several of Gonzalez’s calls against the Blue Jays were well outside the strike zone, leading to frustration among the batters, who were visibly upset by the decisions.
