NY Mets crush Nationals, and Juan Soto believes this is just the beginning

The dominant victory over the Washington Nationals gives the New York Mets, led by Juan Soto, some breathing room heading into the 2026 MLB season.

Carlos Mendoza believed in his roster to turn things around, and they didn’t let him down. The dominant win by the New York Mets over the Washington Nationals could mark a turning point, as Juan Soto stated that this is only the beginning.

“We’ve been grinding every moment, every swing and it finally comes through… This is just the beginning, We’re starting something special right here. We’re trying to go all the way. This is just a little taste of what it’s going to be at the end.” Soto told Steve Gelbs following 8-0 victory over Nationals.

While the situation for the Queens team remains delicate with a record of 10 wins and 19 losses, the level shown at Citi Field is encouraging. Will it be easy to turn things around? No, but this performance seems to give the Mets some breathing room to move forward steadily in what’s ahead.

Juan Soto and Clay Holmes as the main stars

The New York Mets secured a resounding shutout victory over the Washington Nationals, highlighted by a dominant offensive display. Juan Soto delivered the exclamation point of the night with a towering two-run home run in the fourth inning, finishing the game 1-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored.

While Francisco Alvarez went hitless in four at-bats during this specific contest, he remains a centerpiece of the Mets’ powerhouse lineup, having already logged a multi-homer game earlier this month. Backed by a stellar pitching performance from Clay Holmes, who struck out six across six scoreless innings, the Mets’ stars continue to pursue the team’s position as a premier force in the National League.

What’s next for the Mets?

The Mets will continue their homestand at Citi Field with two more games against Washington today, April 29, and tomorrow, April 30. Following this series, the team hits the road for a ten-day West Coast and mountain trip, starting with a three-game series against the Los Angeles Angels (May 1–3), followed by matchups against the Colorado Rockies (May 4–6) and the Arizona Diamondbacks (May 8–10).

Fans are also looking ahead to the middle of May, when the Mets return home for the highly anticipated first Subway Series of the year against the Yankees starting May 15.
