The New York Yankees are dangerously close to missing the postseason, a blow that would overshadow all the games they dropped in August. Adding to the pressure, the team is now facing criticism from former players like Willie Randolph, who issued a sharp warning about something that’s gone missing when the team take the field in the Bronx.
Randolph weighed in on the team’s ongoing struggles, offering a blunt assessment of the current situation and saying that the iconic home-field advantage at Yankee Stadium has all but vanished.
“Teams are not afraid of us anymore,” Randolph told SNY. “We need to get that mojo back where they come to Yankee Stadium and they know they’re gonna be in for a big fight.”
Poor home record
The Yankees’ home record during the 2025 MLB season so far isn’t terrible — 35 wins and 23 losses — but it’s far from dominant, and certainly not the feared fortress it once was. On the road, the numbers are worse at 27-32. More concerning is the team’s recent slide at home, going 5-5 in their last 10 games in the Bronx, when home-field advantage should be giving them a boost.
As a World Series champion player and four-time champion coach, Randolph knows what it takes to win. His perspective carries weight, especially considering he managed the Yankees from 2005 to 2008 and missed the postseason only once during that span.
Next home series
After dropping their series against the Astros, the Yankees return home to face the Twins in what could be another shot at redemption. It’s the first of two series against Minnesota this season — last year, New York took both matchups.
