The Los Angeles Lakers have yet to play a single game with their new roster, yet the word around the NBA is that they shouldnāt have traded for Russell Westbrook because he wasnāt a good fit for them.
The Lakers chose to stack talent and round up their roster with proven veterans rather than going at players depending on their fit. And while some may criticize that approach, the truth is that itās pretty tough to beat a team with 3 of the best players in the league.
Thatās why Lakers coach Frank Vogel believes that Westbrook could coexist with LeBron James on the court as long as they make sacrifices and put their egos aside for the sake of the franchise.
Lakers Coach Frank Vogel Says LeBron And Westbrook Need To Make Sacrifices
āI think anytime you have three great players like this there is an element of sacrifice required and weāve all talked about that and are all-in on that,ā said Vogel, as quoted by Matt Peralta of Lakers Nation.
āThese three guys can do it all and what I love about our group. Bron, AD and Russ, is theyāre all make-the-right-play players, you know what I mean. Itās not just about scoring or being a one-dimensional player. They can all do it all, so Iām most excited about seeing what the three of them on the court at the same time looks like,ā Vogel concluded.
Both Westbrook and LeBron have been used to playing with other superstars for quite long, so itās not like this will be anything new to them. Then again, theyāre both ball-dominant and non-shooters, so that could be an issue going forward.
Nonetheless, every time you have the chance to pair two of the best players of their generation together, you donāt put much thought into it. Good fit or not, we wouldnāt put our money against the Lakers.
