Stephen Curry is undoubtedly the most impactful player in Golden State Warriors history. At 37 years old, the four-time NBA champion and two-time MVP remains a dominant force on the court. However, like every NBA career, Curry’s time in the league will eventually come to an end. While retirement isn’t imminent, conversations about his future have gained traction, and Draymond Green recently shared his thoughts on when the sharpshooting guard might hang it up.

Despite his age, Curry continues to perform at an elite level. Since Jimmy Butler joined the Warriors, the team has reemerged as championship contenders, with Curry leading the charge and showing no signs of slowing down. According to Green, Curry’s competitive spirit and dedication mean he’ll likely walk away only when he feels he can no longer play at the top of his game.

He is definitely that type of person where he’s just not gonna hold on and do the whole thing that a lot of guys do,” Green said on a recent episode of Dubs Talk. “If he’s not at an elite level, he’s not gonna [keep playing]”.

Green also predicted that Curry could sustain his current level of performance for at least three more seasons. “He still has too much left to give to this game to let go now,” Green added. “He can 1000 percent play this game at the level he’s playing at for another three years until 40. I wholeheartedly believe that”.

Could another championship extend Curry’s career?

Green suggested that a fifth NBA championship this season could provide Curry with extra motivation to keep playing, especially with the prospect of chasing a sixth title. “The problem he has is [if] we win No. 5 this year, he has a strong chance of winning six next year,” Green said. “He’s not gonna screw me out of six”.

Green added that even if Curry briefly considers retiring after another title, his competitive nature will likely bring him back. “I think the decision will come across his mind, for like a week or two where he’ll be like, ‘Man, I did it,’” Green said. “And then I think he’ll chill for a week or two and be like, ‘Alright, I’m doing this again. I feel too great. I’m too at the peak of my powers’”.

Curry reflects on retirement plans

Curry has addressed retirement in the past, offering insight into his mindset. In a December 2024 interview with The Circuit of Emily Chang, the Warriors superstar expressed his desire to leave the game on his own terms while emphasizing that the time to step away isn’t near.

I don’t want to be the one that’s limping up and down the court trying to keep up with the young bucks,” Curry explained. “There will be a clear sign when it’s time to hang it up. But I don’t think I’m anywhere close to that yet”.

For now, Warriors fans can rest assured that Curry remains focused on leading Golden State in pursuit of another championship. As Green noted, Curry’s legacy is still being written, and his best may not be behind him just yet.
