Brock Purdy was one of the standout figures of this offseason after agreeing to a lucrative contract extension with the San Francisco 49ers. Unfortunately, some of his former teammates weren’t as fortunate, and their paths in the NFL will now head in different directions.
From now on, Mr. Irrelevant knows he’ll be leading a new chapter in the Bay Area—without some of the players who had been key supporters for the quarterback. Still, others have arrived to help fill those potential gaps.
In recent comments to the media, the former Iowa State quarterback shared his thoughts on this new chapter, expressing how tough it was to learn about the departure of some key players—though he remains eager for what lies ahead.
“It’s tough initially because you’ve been through so much stuff with these guys throughout the year,” Purdy said on Bay Area radio station KNBR. “Dre Greenlaw, Huf, Aaron Banks, all these guys, man, that you step on the field with and you try to win games, and you have won games in big moments together. When you see them go, just take a different route, it can be tough initially. But for me, that’s part of the game, and you’ve got to find a way.

“That’s the fun part, the competitive part of this new thing is the challenges. You’ve got new guys coming in, and how can you create a relationship with them? Have this authentic brotherhood that lasts throughout the season. We’re about to go through this crazy journey from beginning to end. For me, it excites me, the new challenge of bringing guys along, teaching them how we do things here in San Francisco. So, it’s going to be nothing but great memories and everything.”

One of the main setbacks for Purdy
Purdy’s emergence in the NFL was a pleasant surprise to both fans and critics alike. Despite being selected as one of the final picks in his draft class, he managed to lead his team to a Super Bowl. Still, the talented quarterback admits he has one kryptonite in the league: games played in bad weather.
“Green Bay, it was raining, we won the game,” Purdy said on Bay Area radio station 95.7 The Game. “Seattle, my rookie year, it started raining in the playoff game, and we won that game. The Buffalo game was crazy. I’m not gonna lie. The snow, the blizzard, and all that. That was on another level, but I don’t know. Outside of that, I don’t buy into it. I feel like I can still play in any condition and find a way to win, and I’ve proven it too.“
Bad weather can be an obstacle that prevents the quarterback from fully showcasing his talent. Nevertheless, he has consistently demonstrated his potential by overcoming highly challenging games—something he’s expected to face once again this season with the 49ers.
