The Cleveland Browns are trying to get over the hump. Their reputation as a dysfunctional NFL franchise is something they want to get rid of, so bold moves are being made. While their focus is on whether Shedeur Sanders is their starting quarterback or not, one player was let go from the team.

That player is defenive end Ogbo Okoronkwo. After being drafted by the Rams, Okoronkwo was then traded to Houston for his fourth year. Following that, the Browns gave the Oklahoma product a three-year deal worth $19 million in 2023. After two seasons, he is not going to be playing for that last season.

Okoronkwo was a decent role player for Cleveland’s defense. He had 52 tackles, 7.5 sacks, one forced fumble and a fumble recovery in 30 games played for the Browns. Out of those 30 games, he only started five of them.

What’s the scenario for the Browns defense?

The biggest drama the Browns faced was not Okoronkwo’s situation, it was keeping defensive end Myles Garrett happy. Garrett is a superstar and has hinted a couple of times that he wants to win. Of course, those threats of leaving were calmed by throwing millions of dollars on a contract extension.

Now, the Browns will have their leader back. Joining him, Cleveland spent their first two draft picks on defense. Mason Graham was selected 5th overall so the expectations are high for the Michigan product. In the second round, they selected Carson Schwesinger to take the lead in the linebacker corp.

The offense is still up in the air

You know the saying ā€œif you have more than one quarterback, then you have none.ā€ Well, the Browns took it literally as they have a battle of four. Shedeur Sanders and Dillon Gabriel are the rookies, and Joe Flacco and Kenny Pickett are the veterans. But despite this, what does the Browns’ offense has to offer?

Their offensive line is one of the best in the NFL, so that’s a good start. Their skill players are also good. Having wide receivers Jerry Jeudy, Diontae Johnson and Cedric Tillman on the roster might not be a guarantee but it has the potential to be a great crew. Also, tight end David Njoku will easily help on the receiving department.

As for the running game, Jerome Ford knows the playbook and is a capable runner. Also, the Browns drafted highly-touted Quinshon Jedkins in the second round to bolster the rushing game.
