Earlier this year, the Browns made the decision to draft two quarterbacks. They selected Dillon Gabriel in the third round, followed by Shedeur Sanders in the fifth.

Sanders signed his rookie deal a few days ago. Now, Gabriel has officially become a member of the team by signing his contract, as he hopes to secure a spot on the final 53-man roster.

Dillon Gabriel vs. Shedeur Sanders: The financial difference between a third- and fifth-round pick

Shedeur Sanders was once projected to be a first-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. However, he unexpectedly slid to the fifth round, where the Browns ultimately selected him and prevented a further fall.

Had he gone in the first round, Sanders could have earned at least $10 million per season. Instead, he’ll now make significantly less due to his draft position. The former Colorado standout signed a 4-year, $4.65 million contract with Cleveland — a figure far below what he likely anticipated.

Now, Dillon Gabriel has also signed his rookie deal. As a third-round pick, he secured a 4-year, $6.2 million contract — higher than Sanders’ in total value. Neither quarterback has a fifth-year option, which is reserved for first-round selections.

Despite Gabriel earning more overall, his contract includes no guaranteed money. Meanwhile, Sanders has $447,380 guaranteed, regardless of his future with the team — a rare benefit for a fifth-rounder.
