New Orleans Saints quarterback Jameis Winston suffered an apparent ACL tear during the victory against Tampa Bay Buccaneers, according to Jane Slater of the NFL Network. If the news is confirmed, it would mean the end of his season.

Winstons had to abandon the game in the second quarter of Sunday’s 36-27 victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and he was on crutches at the end of game. He was pulled down by the shoulder by linebacker Devin White, who was penalized on the play.

Coach Sean Payton said that Wintons has a “significant” injury but didn’t give away further details. “I think it’s significant. He felt something. He’s on crutches right now. I don’t want to say until I have a chance to talk to the doctors,” Payton said in the post-game press conference.

Winston could miss the rest of the season

According to Ian Rapopport from the NFL Network, Wintons could also suffered “potential damage to the MCL,”besides the possible anterior cruciate ligament tear. However, there’s still not official statement.

Winston was off to a solid start when he suffered the knee injury in the second quarter. Trevor Siemian replaced him and did just enough at quarterback to help get the Saints in a win that also saw Tom Brady who threw an interception, his seventh against New Orleans since playing for Tampa.

It’s unclear who will start at quarterback for the Saints in Week 9 at home against the Atlanta Falcons, or for the remainder of the season if Winston misses significant time. While Taysom Hill would be the candidate, he’s unavailable while recovering from a concussion.
