Itās the dawn of a new era for the New England Patriots. Once the most feared team in the National Football League, theyāre trying to get back to their winning ways with rookie quarterback Mac Jones behind center.
Jones was one of the most sought-after prospects coming out of the University of Alabama, and following an impressive preseason, he made an immediate impact when he had the chance to play for real.
Sadly, the Mac Jones era didnāt get off to the best of starts, as the Patriots lost at home to the Miami Dolphins in the season opener. Even so, they had to be pretty satisfied with what they got from their rookie.
Mac Jones Says Keeping The Ball Of His Fist Career Touchdown Doesnāt Really Matter
Jones completed 29 of his 39 passes for 281 yards, one touchdown, and zero interceptions. But besides that, itās the intangibles that makehim such a perfect fit for the Patriots, as you could tell by his mindset and his thoughts on not keeping the ball of his first career touchdown:
āIt doesnāt really matter. Itās just one touchdown. We have to score more. Itās not like the game was over right there. We gotta do better in the red zone and get more touchdowns. And we will,ā said the Patriotsā rookie, as quoted by Mike Reiss of ESPN.
Thatās the most Bill Belichick thing any rookie could say, so his boss must definitely be proud. Itās a business-first kind of approachfor Mac Jones and the Patriots, as itās always been and always be.
Clearly, Jones is unfazed by the pressure, the traditions, or any of the narratives and outside drama that doesnāt translate to winning football games. And thatās why some believe that heāll be one of the faces of the league rather sooner than later.
