It’s the dawn of a new era for the New England Patriots. Once the most feared team in the National Football League, they’re trying to get back to their winning ways with rookie quarterback Mac Jones behind center.

Jones was one of the most sought-after prospects coming out of the University of Alabama, and following an impressive preseason, he made an immediate impact when he had the chance to play for real.

Sadly, the Mac Jones era didn’t get off to the best of starts, as the Patriots lost at home to the Miami Dolphins in the season opener. Even so, they had to be pretty satisfied with what they got from their rookie.

Mac Jones Says Keeping The Ball Of His Fist Career Touchdown Doesn’t Really Matter

Jones completed 29 of his 39 passes for 281 yards, one touchdown, and zero interceptions. But besides that, it’s the intangibles that makehim such a perfect fit for the Patriots, as you could tell by his mindset and his thoughts on not keeping the ball of his first career touchdown:

“It doesn’t really matter. It’s just one touchdown. We have to score more. It’s not like the game was over right there. We gotta do better in the red zone and get more touchdowns. And we will,” said the Patriots’ rookie, as quoted by Mike Reiss of ESPN.

That’s the most Bill Belichick thing any rookie could say, so his boss must definitely be proud. It’s a business-first kind of approachfor Mac Jones and the Patriots, as it’s always been and always be.

Clearly, Jones is unfazed by the pressure, the traditions, or any of the narratives and outside drama that doesn’t translate to winning football games. And that’s why some believe that he’ll be one of the faces of the league rather sooner than later.
