NFL News: Aaron Rodgers reportedly has just one realistic option between Steelers, Vikings, and retirement

Aaron Rodgers hasn’t said a single word in public in the last few months, yet his silence only increases the uncertainty around his future. For weeks, the four-time NFL MVP has been linked with three possible scenarios: playing for the Pittsburgh Steelers, waiting for the Minnesota Vikings, or retiring from football.

However, it appears that only one of those options could be a realistic outcome for the star quarterback. According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, chances are that Rodgers plays for the Steelers in the 2025 NFL season.

“There’s no other spots. So if Aaron Rodgers is gonna play football in 2025, it is going to be for the Pittsburgh Steelers,” Rapoport said Monday on Good Morning Football, after ruling out the Vikings for the near future.

Minnesota did consider the opportunity to bring Rodgers, but the team ultimately decided to see what J.J. McCarthy can do first. Unless the second-year QB fails to impress in the spring and A-Rod is still available later in the offseason, the Vikings are not expected to make a move for the 41-year-old.

Rodgers could announce move to Steelers before 2025 NFL Draft

Mike Tomlin and the Steelers reportedly feel optimistic about getting Rodgers, who visited the team’s facility in March before having a throwing session with wide receiver DK Metcalf, who was traded to Pittsburgh this offseason.

However, as franchise owner Art Rooney said at the NFL annual meetings last week, the Steelers won’t wait him forever. Therefore, Rapoport expects Rodgers to announce a decision before the 2025 NFL Draft:

“Not be surprised if there’s an announcement from him in the next couple of weeks, it has to be theoretically before the Draft. Because if the Steelers don’t get an answer by late April, they might draft a quarterback. In fact, they may draft a quarterback anyway.“

Rodgers not expected to retire this offseason

Of course, Rodgers’ silence will leave room for speculation. However, it’s important to note that, according to Rapoport, Rodgers will probably not hang up his cleats yet. So, with the Vikings and retirement seemingly ruled out, playing for the Steelers appears to be the only realistic option for the quarterback in 2025.

“Lot’s of positive momentum between Rodgers and the Steelers, it seems that’s the most likely place by far. Meanwhile, the specter of retirement—possible retirement—doesn’t seem likely, but at least will be considered an option until he makes a decision,” Rapoport added.
