NFL News: Giants select starting QB between Russell Wilson and Jaxson Dart

During the 2025 NFL Draft, the New York Giants selected Jaxson Dart. Now, the NFC East club has revealed whether he will start over Russell Wilson in his rookie season.

Earlier this offseason, the New York Giants acquired Russell Wilson. However, just weeks later, the team used the 25th overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft to select Jaxson Dart, raising questions about who would be the starting quarterback next season.

It’s clear the Giants have struggled to find a reliable quarterback since Eli Manning. Their most significant attempt came with Daniel Jones, selected sixth overall in 2019 to replace the two-time Super Bowl champion.

Unfortunately, the Daniel Jones experiment didn’t pan out, and he is no longer with the team. The franchise remains desperate for a quarterback who can lead them to success, and they now have three potential options in the locker room.

Giants GM Joe Schoen reveals Jaxson Dart’s role for 2025

The Giants were aggressive during the 2025 NFL Draft. Although they didn’t trade up for the first or second overall pick, they did acquire an additional first-round selection in a deal with the Texans—giving up two 2025 picks and one in 2026—to draft a new quarterback.

Despite already having Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston on the roster, the Giants selected Dart with an eye toward the future. They want the former Ole Miss standout to learn from both veterans, and they’ve now made his role clear.

Giants general manager Joe Schoen confirmed that Dart will not start in 2025. Instead, he will sit behind Wilson, the team’s projected starter, and Winston as he develops during his rookie season.

“Jaxson’s going to come in, he’s got to learn the offense, there’s a lot to learn,” Schoen said. “These NFL offenses are hard to grasp and pick up and then be able to go out and execute, so the ability for him to learn and sit behind two consummate pros already will be beneficial for him.”

Why didn’t the Giants draft Shedeur Sanders?

One of the biggest surprises in this year’s draft was the dramatic fall of Shedeur Sanders. Thirty-one teams passed on the former Colorado star until the Cleveland Browns selected him with the 144th overall pick.

Rumors suggested that the Giants were one of the top landing spots for Sanders. However, the front office was reportedly more impressed with Jaxson Dart’s performance at the NFL Combine, which convinced them to draft him over Sanders.
