NFL News: Mike Tomlin and Steelers have reportedly chosen path in draft for next quarterback as Aaron Rodgers might not sign with Pittsburgh

With the NFL draft just around the corner, Mike Tomlin and the Pittsburgh Steelers have reportedly mapped out their plan for selecting their next quarterback. As the future of Aaron Rodgers with the team remains uncertain, the Steelers are ready for a pivotal decision.

Mike Tomlin and the Pittsburgh Steelers might not take a starting quarterback in the first round of the draft, according to a report by Gerry Dulac. Although it’s very tempting if Shedeur Sanders falls to the No. 21 spot, the priority is a defensive lineman.

“With the start of the NFL draft just four days away, the Steelers have narrowed their search to bolstering their defensive line, finding a replacement for Najee Harris, adding another wide receiver and possibly getting a quarterback. And likely in that order.”

It’s important to mention that the information indicates Aaron Rodgers will not affect the Steelers’ plans in the draft. Although it’s a position that needs depth on the roster, they don’t want to make the same mistake they did with Kenny Pickett in 2022.

Who will be Steelers starting quarterback in 2025?

Mason Rudolph would be the Steelers’ starting quarterback in 2025 if Aaron Rodgers doesn’t sign with the team. Tomlin is comfortable with this scenario, and that’s why Dulac reiterates that, at least in the first round, Pittsburgh will prioritize looking for a defensive lineman.

“Nonetheless, without a pick in the second round, the Steelers want to be sure they use the 21st overall pick to address their biggest need. There seems to be little question that is the defensive line, where finding the next Cam Heyward would appear to be at the top of their list.”
