Mike Tomlin and the Pittsburgh Steelers saw the same thing everyone else did in Aaron Rodgers’ interview on The Pat McAfee Show: a hesitant player who doesn’t know what his future holds and who never confirmed he was close to signing with the black and gold team.
Given this scenario, general manager Omar Khan and the coaching staff won’t panic at all. According to a report from Tony Pauline, they are absolutely comfortable with Mason Rudolph as the starter and a rookie they plan to select in the draft to complete the depth chart: Shedeur Sanders.
“The choice of Sanders makes a lot of sense for the team, as he’ll sit behind whoever is the starting quarterback for Pittsburgh in 2025. I’m told Tomlin is not afraid to go into the season with Mason Rudolph as his starting quarterback, as the team will lean on defense and their running game despite losing Najee Harris in free agency.”
Who will be Steelers starting quarterback?
Mason Rudolph will be the starting quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers if Aaron Rodgers decides not to sign with the team. Tomlin is absolutely confident in that option, which is why he isn’t desperate.
The Steelers drafted Rudolph in the third round of the 2018 draft, and at the time, many reports indicated they had him with a first-round grade as the eventual successor to Ben Roethlisberger.
