Mike Tomlin and the Pittsburgh Steelers have made Aaron Rodgers their priority. In case the quarterback does not want to sign, the team would not be willing to make a big effort to trade for Kirk Cousins due to the large salary of the Falcons player, according to a report by James Palmer.
āIf Rodgers doesnāt come, I think they would have some interest. They are not willing to pay a large chunk of that salary that Kirk Cousins is owed. Unless the Falcons are able to eat the majority of that money, I donāt think Kirk Cousins and the Steelers are a match.ā
Cousins would be an emergency option, although the Steelers remain very confident that Rodgers will join them trying to win the Super Bowl. However, everything is completely uncertain in the matter.
Who will be the next Steelers starting quarterback?
Mason Rudolph would be the next starting quarterback for the Steelers if Aaron Rodgers does not sign with Pittsburgh. Palmer mentions that if the price to pay for Cousins is too high, Mike Tomlin prefers Rudolph as the QB1.
āI do think they are confident with Mason Rudolph. They would prefer Aaron Rodgers, but they will be comfortable with Mason Rudolph being their quarterback.ā
