NFL News: Mike Tomlin and Steelers might have Plan C to sign star quarterback if Aaron Rodgers rejects offer from Pittsburgh

If Aaron Rodgers turns down Pittsburgh's offer, Mike Tomlin and the Steelers are prepared with a game-changing backup plan. With the future of the team at stake, their surprising Plan C could land a star quarterback.

The Pittsburgh Steelers are still waiting for Aaron Rodgers to make a final decision about his future. Although some reports indicate that the biggest rival to sign him would be the Minnesota Vikings, the reality is that, for now, the race is between the Giants and Mike Tomlin’s team.

Considering the time Rodgers might take, general manager Omar Khan has already taken steps to protect himself in case the star leaves them hanging. Mason Rudolph signed a two-year contract, and if they run out of options, the former Oklahoma State prospect could take the reins.

However, there could still be a name available that has been talked about very little, as he is not officially a free agent. Given the need for a starting quarterback to win the Super Bowl, that would be Pittsburgh’s Plan C.

Who will start at QB for Steelers?

Kirk Cousins could be an emergency alternative for the Steelers if Aaron Rodgers turns them down. The Atlanta Falcons need to decide whether to cut Cousins before March 17, or otherwise, they would have to pay him a $10 million roster bonus.

Although Arthur Blank has said that he wants Cousins as a backup to Michael Penix Jr., a report from Albert Breer has confirmed that the veteran has requested to leave the team in order to be a starter elsewhere.
