NFL News: Mike Tomlin and Steelers really like a potential starting quarterback if Aaron Rodgers doesn’t sign

With Aaron Rodgers' future in Pittsburgh still uncertain, Mike Tomlin and the Steelers are turning heads with their strong interest in a rising quarterback prospect, someone they believe could be the long-term answer under center if Rodgers doesn't come aboard.

Mike Tomlin and the Pittsburgh Steelers were delighted with Shedeur Sanders’ visit to the city, according to a report by Adam Schefter. This refutes all the rumors that had claimed the meeting had not gone well for the quarterback.

“The Pittsburgh Steelers met with Shedeur and I can tell you, they came away from that meeting impressed. They liked him more than they thought they would have. So, now all of a sudden, Shedeur figures into the plans maybe in Pittsburgh. One player seems to impact a whole bunch of teams. It’s wild to me that one guy can do that, but it feels like that’s the power that Shedeur Sanders currently holds in the upcoming 2025 NFL draft.”

While the Steelers wait on Aaron Rodgers, Tomlin and Omar Khan will have to face a crucial draft day as they plan for the future of the franchise. If Sanders is available at the No. 21 spot, they may believe that the Colorado star is the key to becoming long-term Super Bowl contenders.

Will Steelers sign Shedeur Sanders?

The Steelers have a high grade on Shedeur Sanders and could draft him, but it will all depend on whether other teams like the New York Giants or the New Orleans Saints don’t jump ahead to select him in the first round.

Although the Steelers’ biggest need is on the defensive line, a potential generational talent at No. 21 could lead Tomlin and Khan to make a surprising decision. Also, it’s important to remember that Pittsburgh doesn’t have a second-round pick this year after the trade with the Seahawks for DK Metcalf.
