The Pittsburgh Steelers are adjusting their roster ahead of the 2025 NFL season. The main issue is determining who will be the starting quarterback for the upcoming season, and there are already multiple rumors linking Aaron Rodgers’ name to the team. Meanwhile, head coach Mike Tomlin secured the signing of a player from the New York Jets, a teammate of the 41-year-old veteran quarterback.

Rodgers’ situation remains uncertain, and the Steelers are strong contenders to sign him, especially after Justin Fields’ departure to the Jets. Russell Wilson, who was a starter for most of last season, is in talks with the New York Giants and the Denver Broncos. With the start of free agency, the outlook is wide open.

Meanwhile, in Tomlin‘s team, they aren’t resting and have agreed to sign cornerback Brandin Echols, who reached a deal with the Steelers after playing with Rodgers in the Jets. The information was confirmed by NFL insider Jordan Schultz.

Echols’ cycle with the Jets

The Jets selected Echols in the sixth round of the 2021 draft. He spent his first four seasons as a pro in New York, appearing in 57 games, 19 of which were as a starter. During his time in the green jersey, he accumulated 122 tackles, five interceptions, and one fumble recovery.

How long did Aaron Rodgers and Echols share a team?

Rodgers and Echols were teammates in New York for two seasons, in 2023 and 2024. Given the expected moves in Pittsburgh, it’s likely that both players will reunite on the same roster for the 2025 season, but this time playing for the Steelers instead of wearing the Jets’ green jersey.
