Russell Wilson is in trouble. The New York Giants have officially signed Jameis Winston, and according to a report by Tom Pelissero, the Pittsburgh Steelers have no intention of signing him.
As pointed out recently, Mike Tomlin’s priority is Aaron Rodgers: “Nothing shocks me, but I would be very surprised if Russell Wilson, under any circumstances, is back in Pittsburgh.”
In this way, the two most important options for Wilson (Steelers and Giants) are ruled out, so he will have to find a spot even as a backup quarterback. The draft could determine what might be the veteran’s last alternative in his search to win another Super Bowl.
Will Steelers give Russell Wilson a contract extension?
No. According to information from Pelissero, the Steelers are not considering Russell Wilson, and in fact, Aaron Rodgers has already visited them in Pittsburgh. The other options for Tomlin are Mason Rudolph (who is already on the roster) or a young quarterback in the draft.
For Wilson, the Cleveland Browns could be his last option or maybe the Tennessee Titans if they are not convinced by Will Levis. Currently, the names left as free agents competing for a position are Joe Flacco and Carson Wentz.
